Will Smith Announces First Album in Two Decades - "Based On A True Story" Set for March 28 Release

After a 20-year hiatus from the music industry, the legendary Will Smith has announced the release of his new album "Based On A True Story." The album is set to drop on March 28th, just two weeks from now.

Smith shared the exciting news on his Instagram, revealing the album cover and track listing, which is divided into "episodes" rather than traditional song titles. The feature lineup includes collaborations with longtime friend and musical partner DJ Jazzy Jeff, as well as Teyana Taylor and Smith's own son.

"It's OFFICIAL!! My new album Based On A True Story drops March 28. TWO WEEKS!! Hit that presave. Been working on this project for a minute and I'm itchin' to get it out to y'all," Smith captioned his post.

The last time fans heard a full-length album from the multi-talented entertainer was back in 2005 with "Lost and Found." So this new release marks a major comeback for the Fresh Prince after over 20 years.

In a recent podcast appearance, Smith also revealed that he had discussed the idea of starting an entertainment company with the late, great Prince and Jay-Z, but those plans were tragically cut short when Prince passed away just hours after their conversation.

"I talked to Prince eight hours before he died," Smith shared. "He called and he was pitching. He was saying that me, him and JAY-Z should start an entertainment company. And he said that he had talked to Jay and he wanted to do it. We talked that night and in the morning – he was gone."

While the joint venture never materialized, Smith and Jay-Z have continued to collaborate in other ways, with their respective companies Overbrook Entertainment and Roc Nation joining forces on projects like the upcoming Emmett Till limited series.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from Will Smith, and it seems the wait is finally over. "Based On A True Story" is sure to be a highly anticipated release, giving listeners a fresh taste of the iconic entertainer's musical talents after more than two decades. Mark your calendars for March 28th!
