Tory Lanez is making a major comeback with a new album recorded entirely from behind bars. The Toronto rapper, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence, has announced his next project titled "Peterson" - a sequel to his 2020 album "Daystar."
Lanez took to Instagram to share the album details, writing in the caption: "Dear 2025 … This COMEBACK is PERSONAL. ALBUM NAME – PETERSON. SEQUEL OF – DAYSTAR. FRIDAY!" The cover art features a shirtless Tory seemingly taken from prison, showcasing his impressive physique.
In a previous interview, Lanez described the album as "the first ever in-real-time prison album" that will be "recorded in prison, for prisoners, by a prisoner in real time as a prisoner is going through his real-time sentence." He promised it will sound just like a typical Tory Lanez project, but with the added "pain," "hunger," "tears," and "cries" from his current incarceration.
Unfortunately, Lanez recently faced a setback when prison officials seized his recording equipment during a raid. Footage emerged of Tory rapping as a prison riot broke out around him, but he was forced to abandon the session as guards used pepper spray to disperse the fight.
Despite this, Lanez remains determined to get his story out, stating that his purpose in prison is to "suffer, to feel, and to witness firsthand the pain and oppression being inflicted upon the young black and brown men and women" of his generation. He has already used his resources to provide legal representation for hundreds of fellow inmates, vowing to continue this mission even as the "higher ups" try to stop his "Prison Tapes" project.
Fans will be able to hear Tory Lanez's raw, unfiltered perspective when "Peterson" drops this Friday, March 7th. This deeply personal album promises to be an unprecedented look into the realities of the prison system from the eyes of a high-profile artist serving time.
