In an exciting announcement for fans, SZA has confirmed that she will be releasing a brand new album before the end of 2024. The news came during the singer's appearance on Kai Cenat's "Mafiathon 2" livestream over the weekend.
"There's a whole new project that you will hear […] It will be out before the year is over," SZA revealed to Cenat. While she didn't share any additional details about the upcoming album, the "Kill Bill" hitmaker did tease an exciting collaboration with rapper Lil Yachty.
SZA explained that she and Yachty were supposed to hit the studio together the next day, but his appearance on Cenat's stream interfered with their plans. "We were supposed to work on a song tomorrow and work in the studio and he was like, 'I have to go to Kai's,'" she said, before jokingly telling Cenat to "make sure he makes it to the studio, on some real shit."
The TDE singer went on to praise Yachty's musical talents, noting that he's "a producer and a writer" and that she's "trying to be a better rapper." SZA added, "I feel like Yachty's lowkey [talented as fuck]. Not even lowkey."
This news comes after it was teased in a recent Vogue cover story that SZA is currently working on two different projects - a deluxe edition of her acclaimed 2022 album SOS, as well as her highly anticipated third studio album.
Based on SZA's wording in the Kai Cenat interview, it seems the project she's gearing up to release before the year is out is likely her new full-length album, rather than the SOS deluxe. The deluxe edition, previously referred to as "Lana," appears to have been scrapped, with SZA telling fans earlier this year, "Y'all can keep the throwaways and leaks. I'll be starting 'Lana' from scratch."
Fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from SZA since the massive success of SOS, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and earned the singer her first Grammy win. With the announcement of this forthcoming album, as well as the tease of a Lil Yachty collaboration, SZA's supporters are sure to be thrilled. Stay tuned for more details on the highly anticipated project in the coming weeks and months.
