Lil Baby Emerges from 'Dark Period' with New Single and Album Announcement

After going through what he described as the "darkest period" of his life over the past two years, Atlanta rapper Lil Baby is reemerging with a major comeback in the works. The 4PF frontman sparked excitement among fans and fellow artists this week by previewing new material from his newly announced album WHAM (Who Hard As Me).

"Ain't It Crazy How They Tryna Play Me Like I Ain't The One!!! It's That Time!" Lil Baby wrote on Instagram. "I Would Say Again But This Run Will Be Totally Different!! I Had The Darkest Period Of My Life These Last Two Years But I Stayed Down And Overcame That Shit[.] Now I'm Back To Fuccin Shit Up As Usual…, Sincerely Wham !! Who Hard As Me[.] Let's Gooooooo."

The song snippet received co-signs from 50 Cent, Swizz Beatz, and Gillie Da Kid, with 50 Cent commenting "This is Hard" and Swizz Beatz declaring "Let's go King it's that time."

Just hours later, Lil Baby delivered the full version of the new single "5AM," produced by Wheezy and Sean Momberger. The heavy-hitting track finds the rapper defiantly addressing various challenges, from disloyal friends and lovers to law enforcement trying to "connect [him] to dumb shit."

"Even my mama be asking me where is the album, we want it / Had to get on my business and tighten my mental, I'm coming," Lil Baby declares on the song's outro, signaling that his fourth studio album WHAM (Who Hard As Me) is on the way.

The new album will serve as the follow-up to Lil Baby's 2022 effort It's Only Me, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 but received mixed reviews. With this impending comeback, the Atlanta star is aiming to recapture the success and impact of his breakout 2020 album My Turn.

Lil Baby has promised to release a second single from WHAM on Thursday, November 14, so fans can expect more new music and details about the highly anticipated project in the coming days. After weathering a "dark period," it seems Lil Baby is ready to "fuck shit up as usual" and reassert his status as one of the top rappers in the game.
