Exclusive First Look: Nike Kobe 5 Protro "Year of the Mamba" in All-Black

The Nike Kobe 5 Protro has been a hugely popular model, with Nike honoring the late Kobe Bryant's legacy through special "Year of the Mamba" colorways. We've already seen the varsity purple and bold red versions release to much fanfare, but now Kobe's widow Vanessa Bryant has revealed a third all-black iteration of the celebratory sneaker.

This new Kobe 5 Protro "Year of the Mamba" features a stealthy black upper with the only pop of color coming from the gold Sheath logo on the tongue. The black upper is highlighted by the golden snake embroidered design wrapping around the Swoosh, a nod to Kobe's "Black Mamba" nickname.

While Vanessa Bryant has only been revealing special edition and player exclusive Kobe sneakers, the mass appeal of an all-black colorway like this would surely make it an instant sellout if it hit retail. Sneakerheads have been clamoring for more Kobe 5 Protro releases, so this latest all-black version is sure to get pulses racing.

Unfortunately, Vanessa confirmed these won't be releasing to the public anytime soon, as she only shares Kobe-inspired PEs and limited editions. But for those lucky enough to get their hands on a pair, this stealthy Kobe 5 Protro is sure to be a treasured addition to any sneaker collection honoring the legacy of the late, great Kobe Bryant.

In the meantime, Nike is set to release the highly anticipated Kobe 6 "Dodgers" colorway in April. Be sure to check our Sneaker Release Dates page for updates on that drop and other must-have Kobe sneakers in the works.
