Cam'ron Claps Back at Elliott Wilson Over Journalism Criticism

The new year is off to a fiery start in the world of hip-hop media, as veteran journalist Elliott Wilson found himself on the receiving end of a scathing response from Cam'ron's sports talk show "It Is What It Is."

During a recent appearance on the New Rory & Mal podcast, Wilson criticized the growing trend of artists becoming media personalities, singling out Cam'ron's foray into sports journalism.

"Everybody is media. Cam'ron's running around like he's Stephen A. Smith," Wilson said, arguing that celebrities don't perform as well as professional journalists. He also questioned why Cam'ron has a sports show, saying "Why is he a sports journalist? Because he has an opinion?"

Wilson's comments did not sit well with the "It Is What It Is" team, who unleashed a fiery response on their official Instagram page. They called Wilson a "salty hater" and told him "nobody is checking for you" before declaring "we the new source" in the media landscape.

The account went on to post an old video of Cam'ron talking about learning the media business from the likes of Stephen A. Smith and Matt Barnes, emphasizing that "we the culture and you a sucka."

Cam'ron's co-host Treasure "Stat Baby" Wilson also weighed in, defending Cam's journalism chops and arguing that he "literally does his research" and provides a "trusted voice" for athletes and musicians. She criticized the industry for not doing enough to uplift others, saying "it's always gonna be someone else's turn unless you do something about it."

The back-and-forth has reignited the ongoing debate around artists-turned-media personalities, with Wilson representing the old guard of traditional journalism and Cam'ron and his team embodying the new wave of celebrity-driven content.

It remains to be seen how this clash will play out, but one thing is clear - Cam'ron and "It Is What It Is" are not backing down from Elliott Wilson's criticism anytime soon.
