AWS Invests $10 Billion in Ohio to Power the Future of AI

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a major $10 billion investment to expand its data center infrastructure and AI capabilities in the state of Ohio. This investment builds on the $7.8 billion commitment made in 2023 and brings AWS's total investment in Ohio to over $23 billion by 2030.

The investment will create hundreds of new AWS jobs in technical roles like data center engineering, network operations, security, and more. It will also support thousands of additional jobs in the local economy across sectors like telecommunications, facilities maintenance, and electricity generation.

"As reliance on digital services continues to grow, so does the importance of data centers; they are critical to today's modern economy," said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. "AWS's substantial investment in Ohio will help keep our state at the forefront of the global technology."

The rise of cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) is a key driver behind AWS's expansion in Ohio. Cloud adoption is projected to contribute over $12 trillion to global GDP in the next six years, and AI will be a major part of that growth. AWS's data centers in Ohio will provide the advanced infrastructure needed to power the latest AI and machine learning workloads.

"Artificial Intelligence and data centers are crucial to America's economic superiority because they drive innovation, support high-tech industries, enhance productivity across sectors, and enable the analysis and management of vast data essential for global competitiveness," said Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted.

Beyond just building data centers, AWS is also investing heavily in developing Ohio's future tech talent. The company has established programs like the Data Center Technician Training Program at Columbus State Community College, providing scholarships and internships to equip workers for careers in cloud infrastructure.

AWS is also collaborating with K-12 schools across Ohio on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education initiatives to inspire the next generation of technology leaders. Programs like AWS Girls' Tech Day and the AWS Think Big Spaces bring hands-on learning in areas like AI, robotics, and coding to students.

"As AWS expands in Ohio, we're committed to powering our operations in an environmentally sustainable way," the company stated. AWS has invested in 23 wind and solar projects across the state that will generate over 2.9 gigawatt hours of clean energy annually.

The $10 billion investment cements Ohio's position as a key hub for AWS and the broader technology industry. Through job creation, education partnerships, sustainability efforts, and community reinvestment, AWS is helping to drive innovation and growth in the Buckeye State.
